Big Changes

Where to even start?  Big things are happening in my life right now.

For one thing, on June 23rd, Chris asked me to marry him!  (Just in case you were wondering, I said yes. ;) )

And then there's the minor detail of me being in South America right now.  Oh yes, I am chilling in Buenos Aires, Argentina at this very moment!

I left the States last Sunday afternoon, and after a very long day of traveling I arrived in Buenos Aires on Monday afternoon.  Ten hours is a long time to be on a plane, let me tell you!

At the airport I was met by some of the people from my program and then shoved into a taxi.  I figured when I first got here I would be babied at least a little bit.  That didn't happen.  Right from the start I was just... here.  No English.  Even for the important stuff.  I've been studying Spanish for the last 8 years, and let me tell you... It wasn't enough!

Also, Buenos Aires is a fairly large city.  By fairly large, I mean there are 3 million people just in the city with another 10 million chillin in the burbs!  Yeah, getting lost is pretty much a daily occurance for me.  For those of you who know how directionally challenged I am this shouldn't come as a surprise.  :)

My host family, thankfully, is really nice!  So far, they're my favorite people in the country!  Daily I learn something new from them.

I tried empanadas today.  They were YUMMY.  I have kick-you-in-the-face coffee every day, which is amazing, but I would love a Mountain Dew right about now.  Overall, I'm digging the Argentine food!

It's winter here, so everybody is wearing coats and talking about how cold it is.  While I concur that it has been chilly on occasion, I'm loving the weather.  It's a lot like the end of fall in Indiana.  I get by just fine with hoodies.  Also, for the first couple of days, I think I was the only one in the city with a sunburn!  :)

That's all I've got for right now.  But over the next 5 months I'm sure there will be much more to add.  Feel free to send any questions my way on AIM, facebook, or skype.

My spin on Robert Frost:

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I --
I took the one less travelled by..."

And fell on my butt.

Loving the ice.

It was pretty awesome.  As expected.  My suburbs were sufficiently rocked.
